De Droogbak is in 1884 in neorenaissancestijl ontworpen als hoofdkantoor voor de toenmalige Hollandse IJzeren Spoorweg Maatschappij, de voorloper van de huidige Nederlandse Spoorwegen. In de loop van de tijd heeft het gebouw meerdere gebruikers gekend en is het twintig jaar geleden voor het laatst uitvoerig gerestaureerd.

De Droogbak was designed in 1884 in neo-Renaissance style as the headquarters for the then Hollandse IJzeren Spoorweg Maatschappij, the predecessor of the current Dutch Railways. Over time, the building has known several users and was last extensively restored twenty years ago. The aim of the current transformation was to respectfully adapt the building to the requirements of today's working environment: not only through physical interventions - for example by modernizing the climate control, acoustics and (fire) safety - but above all through a new way of working, in which social interaction plays a central role. All this while retaining as many original elements as possible. The core of the renovation concerns the atrium, which has been transformed from a library into a central meeting space. The ascending points in the office building are then connected to this, also literally with a large spiral staircase. The panels in AluCopper03 anodized are perforated, the AluGold01 panels have a matt etched finish.

Kern van de renovatie betreft het atrium, dat getransformeerd is van bibliotheek tot centrale ontmoetingsruimte. De stijgpunten in het kantoorgebouw zijn hier vervolgens mee verbonden, ook letterlijk met een grote wenteltrap.

De in AluCopper03 geanodiseerde panelen zijn geperforeerd, de AluGold01 panelen hebben een matt etched afwerking.
