THE GREEN REVOLUTION

Alumet also contributes
to a better climate
for the future

The need to reduce CO2, reuse materials, mitigate global warming is now widely known.

Alumet also wants to contribute to this. By reusing materials as much as possible, and applying the latest techniques. Our new state-of-the-art anodizing line uses the latest techniques to use much less energy and water.

High corrosion resistance

Anodizing layer doesn't
corrode under normal circumstances

An anodizing layer consists of aluminium oxide, this layer has properties that prevent corrosion of the under laying aluminium. The layer itself is inert, thus cannot “corrode”.

The layer is formed from the metal itself and cannot peel off. If the aluminium oxide layer scratched or perforated, the exposed aluminium will form aluminium oxide. In this way the anodizing layer is self-healing.

Anodizing layers cannot blister or form filiform corrosion. Corrosion on the unprotected and untreated cut will not affect the adjacent anodising layers.

No loss of shine and color

No fading
in color & gloss level

The natural and electrolytic coloured components will also not be subject to any discolouration when exposed to sunlight. The reason for this is that Alumet uses only metal salts to colour aluminium. No organic pigments are used. Only the colour gold lightens up in the first month, when exposed to sunlight and water, due to a chemical reaction. The UV resistance of anodizing layers is an important property to keep the building bright and shiny. The reflection of anodized layers is also not decreasing like coated products.

High scratch resistance

Aluminum oxide is just as scratch resistant as glass

Aluminium oxide is one of the toughest materials in nature. Sapphire and ruby are also made of the same material, aluminium oxide. The anodizing will layer will hardly erode over time, even in the most hostile environments.

Alumet anodizes according to QUALANOD requirements and BS 3987, class 20 mu or 25 mu. This means that the anodised components will be free of any corrosion and have the highest scratch resistance for building products.

High solar reflectivity

Natural anodized
aluminium keeps
the city cool

The environmental classification system LEED askes for the solar reflectance index (SRI) particularly on roofs. The colour is the most important aspect for the solar reflectance and SRI. The SRI is calculated according ASTM E1980-01, which describes the standard practice for calculating Solar Reflectance Index of horizontal and low-sloped opaque surfaces.

Low maintenance required

Requires little maintenance:
remove dirt only once a year times a year

Anodised aluminium used in architecture requires very little maintenance. The anodising layer consists of metal, aluminium oxide and is hard and robust. Maintenance is therefore understood to mean: cleaning of the product. A clean anodised aluminium surface has a very long lifespan. Under normal conditions, it can easily last 80 years, without losing its gloss or colour.

Long life cycle, long warranty

Very long life span
more than
80 years

The anodized layer has a very long life span. Investigations of buildings anodized in the 50ties and 60ties show little degeneration. Deep cleaning of anodized layers show that buildings can be restored in their original colour and gloss. Alumet declares that the anodising activities that it has performed meet the QUALANOD and BS 3987 requirements. This means that the anodised components will be free of any corrosion and will not contain any cracks, blisters or filiform corrosion. Corrosion on the unprotected and untreated cut will not affect the adjacent anodising layers. The natural and electrolytic coloured components will also not be subject to any discolouration when exposed to sunlight.

Ecological footprint

Anodizing lowers the environmental costs
of a building

Our new production facility makes use the latest techniques in water management and reuse of materials. The process water is purified so that it can be reused. A filter press removes the used metal salts from the water. The filter cake that remains is used again in the cement industry. In addition, our electricity is generated sustainably.

Easy to recycle

Recycling does not produce residual material

Anodized aluminum is easy to recycle. At the end of its life, anodized aluminum, colored or uncoloured, can be converted again be made in new aluminum. Anodizing is a natural process, in which no substances are added to the aluminum.

95% of all aluminum is recyclable and 75% is still in use after all these years. Aluminum is therefore a very durable product that can remain in use even longer due to anodization.

Circular Economy

Aluminum is
100% recyclable

Because aluminum is easy to recycle, it is also part of the circular economy. Alumet colors and edits can also be applied to recycled aluminum while retaining all the properties that make anodizing so suitable. The anodizing layer consists of aluminum and oxide. This is 100% recyclable. The residual products are aluminum and oxygen.
