Kauwgomballenfabriek Amsterdam

Project Description

Kauwgomballenfabriek is a 65-metre tall hotel with a special facade cladding, which resembles the links on a watch strap. In Amsterdam, everyone has heard of the Kauwgomballenfabriek (in English: chewing gum factory). It is a former industrial complex with work spaces for creative entrepreneurs. In 2018, Postillion Hotels opened a hotel on the premises. The hotel was designed by Architectenbureau Concrete. Because the hotel tower consists of two narrow volumes, the result is an elegant and slim building with an abstract facade made of anodised aluminium cassettes.

Aluminium cassettes as facade cladding
The facade is constructed from aluminium links, which are connected like a watch strap. That was real precision work. Alumet anodised all the cassettes in three different shades: AluNature, AluBronze01 and AluBronze03. This creates an industrial look which is characteristic for the older part of the Kauwgomballenfabriek.
